Hideaway owner defiant on University association dispute

An attorney for the University of Iowa, Wendy Marsh,sent a formal letter to Joe Smith, owner of Iowa City’s Hawkeyeve Hideaway demanding that he change the name and color scheme of his establishment. University officials are worried that use of the term Hawkeye and the black and gold colors will insinuate a non existent connection between the bar and the University — Smith disagrees.

Illegal immigrants found in speeding van

Twenty illegal immigrants were found in a van when it was pulled over by a Iowa City police officer on Interstate 80.

 

Animal Shelter is out to dry after the flood

The Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center has been working hard to find a permanent location and more volunteer staff after their facility was soaked by last year’s flood. Increasing number of pets in need of shelter — from flood and economic conditions — have strained the crew of only six full time employees currently operating from the temporary location at the county fairgrounds.
