Multimedia Introduction
In the fall of 2008, The University of Iowa’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication required all incoming majors to take a new five-week course titled Multimedia Introduction. The goal is to introduce journalism students to the storytelling techniques and technologies that are increasingly necessary to journalists.
As part of the course, student are required to critique three examples of professional work. What works? What doesn’t? Did the chosen medium fit the story? What would they have chose to do differently?
The course runs concurrently with the school’s basic reporting and writing class and the students are also asked to post one of the stories they have written for that class.
